Her words helped shape and redefine a generation of black literature and culture. Nikki Giovanni’s voice was powerful in the Black Arts Movement and beyond. She was a champion for racial and social justice. She was very unapologetically black and wove the black experience into her writings.

Nikki Giovanni passed away Monday, December 9, 2024. Although at this time there has been no official cause of death released, she had received a third cancer diagnosis not long before her death.
