ORLANDO — During a vote on Monday, the commission approved the plan brought by the action committee, Vision Zero. The goal is to reduce pedestrian injuries and death to “0″ by 2040. The school zones in question will have a public awareness period before tickets will begin being issued.
After that period, drivers found driving in excess of 10 miles per hour over the school zone speed limit during school hours will receive a $100 ticket.
The school zones included in phase 1 include:
1. Audubon Park School K-8
2. Blankner School K-8
3. Boone High School
4. College Park Middle School
5. Dover Shores Elementary School
6. Eagle’s Nest Elementary School
7. Engelwood Elementary
8. Innovation Middle School
9. Lake Como School K-8
10. Lake Silver Elementary
11. Laureate Park Elementary
12. MetroWest Elementary School
13. Millennia Gardens Elementary School
14. Odyssey Middle School
15. Princeton Elementary
16. Roberto Clemente Middle School
17. Rock Lake Elementary School
18. Sun Blaze Elementary
19. Vista Lakes Elementary
20. Vista Pointe Elementary
21. Westpointe Elementary
The commission will still need to procure vendors to execute the installation of the cameras.
An additional 25 zones will be evaluated for the potential expansion of the program for phase 2.
